Raising public awareness about HIV/AIDS has been an important part of Ms. Glebova’s reign since her crowning in May 2005. In South Africa last summer, she publicly took an HIV test and visited children living with the disease. In November, she spent a week travelling through India as part of an AIDS awareness tour, before flying to Washington D.C. to take part in activities leading up to World AIDS Day, December 1.
For the remainder of her year as Miss Universe, Ms. Glebova will continue to travel the world as an ambassador for many charitable causes, and will continue to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS.
Ms. Glebova, a Russian-born citizen of Canada, recorded the PSAs for the UNITE FOR CHILDREN UNITE AGAINST AIDS campaign in both English and Russian.
